When you take a look at the map of Brussels you'll notice that the old historical "Grand Place" lies in the very center of this beautiful city. Brussels isn't only the capital of Belgium but also of the European Union. It has its origin in the Middle Ages, and was called "Broeksele"then. In those days it was just a small Flemish village, now it has 1 million inhabitants. You can see on the modern map of Brussels that a lot of churches, chapels, convents and other historic buildings are situated around the medieval "Grand Place".
