Manneken PisThe oldest citizen of Belgium: Manneken Pis.
In the beautiful old city centre of Brussels, close to the "Grand Place" and the City Hall, stands the statue of Manneken Pis. This peeing little boy symbolizes one of the main characteristics of many Belgians: a non-violant an innocent form of anarchy. The statement of the little boy Manneken Pis seems to be: 'A boy's got to to what a boy's got to do, and who's going to keep me from doing it." Manneken Pis therefore symbolizes the non-violent, but open and clear protest of simple people against cruelty, dictatorship and tyranny, wherever in the world it may occur. That's why this little boy is much more than a small statue or a tourist attraction: he is nothing less than a freedom fighter! Manneken Pis is also called the oldest citizen of Belgium. The boy is regularly dressed in different clothes. It can be a national or international folkloristic costume or military uniform. Close to this statue, which is situated a few hundred meters of the "Grand Place" you'll find many souvenir shops.
