Hercule PoirotThe famous detective: Hercule Poirot.
One of the most famous detectives of the world is Belgian Hercule Poirot. The only problem is that he doesn’t exist. He’s the crime novel hero created by British author Agatha Christie. Hercule Poirot, Belgian (and not French) detective first appeared in Christie’s first publication “ The Mysterious Affair at Styles”. He immediately got the attention of the public with his “little grey cells”. Hercule Poirot stayed popular in many more novels by Christie. He and Miss Marple (the other creation by the same author) made Agatha Christie the most successful crime author ever. The pedantic, clever detective solved case after case. No crime is too complicated for him. He is simply the best and he knows it. Hercule Poirot also appeared in a number of films and TV series. Two great actors who played the role of the detective are David Suchet and Sir Peter Ustinov. Poirot died in one his books “Curtain: Poirot’s Last Case”, but his popularity remains alive and intact. His stories have been translated in dozens of languages.
