Brussels (Brussel in Dutch, Bruxelles in French) is the capital of Belgium and of the European Union. It has 1 million inhabitants. Many European and international companies, organisations and NGOs have their headquarters there. The city is very internationally oriented. Virtually all nations of the world have their embassy there. Brussels is also the seat of the European Parliament. Many European motorways converge towards the city. The airports of Brussels (Zaventem and Charleroi) serve millions of European and international travellers and businessmen. In the old and beautiful centre you can find many historical buildings, churches and museums. Some of the well known tourist spots are: the Trade Exchange, The Grand Place with the City Hall, The Brewershouse with its museum and of course “Manneken Pis”, Belgium’s oldest citizen. In the very centre of Brussels you can also find many excellent hotels, restaurants, cafés and bars. Belgium cuisine is present there, but also many international restaurants with food from all over the world.
