Belgian Waffle

What makes a good Belgian waffle?

A Belgian waffle used to be a major delicacy at special occasions, but it's so delicious and easy to make that people now eat them whenever they feel like it. A Belgian waffle exists in many varieties, waffles with a very light structure, waffles without yeast, very sweet waffles,... They all are savory and it's fun to experiment with your own taste.

A Belgian waffle is baked in a waffle iron. These are easy to use and not expensive at all. They have a non-stick surface so are very easy to clean. When you start baking simply grease the iron with some oil or butter, then pour in some dough and close the iron. A few minutes later you can enjoy a delicious waffle.

A good Belgian waffle is made with yeast in the dough. Sometimes self-raising flour or baking powder is used, but this is not as tasty. Most recipes use melted butter, but be careful; the butter should not be heated too much and certainly not boil. Don't spoil the taste of freshly melted dairy butter.
