Belgian TervurenCharacteristics of a Belgian Tervuren.
The Belgian Tervuren is one of the four Belgian sheepdogs. Two of the four kinds of these sheepdogs have short hair, and two breeds have long hair. A sheepdog with black long hair is a Groenendael and one with long hair, anything but black is a Belgian Tervuren. Mostly these dogs have a lion color, but there are also silver colored ones and even other hues. The Belgian Tervuren is an elegant dog. He is very alert and has strong territorial instincts. This dog is used a lot to lead a herd of sheep or as a guard or police dog. He has a lot of energy and likes to work. The Belgian Tervuren is strongly attached to his master and will defend his family to the utmost. He understands instinctively what people expect from him and reacts correspondingly. He can learn how to deal with visitors, but when he smells danger, there's nothing that will keep him from his defending job. The best family dog is raised as a pup in that same family.
