Belgian Draft HorsesAppearance and temperament of Belgian draft horses.
Belgian draft horses are supremely muscled, with a short, wide back, which allows for more power when pulling. Their neck is short while the chest is wide, but both are remarkably strong. Belgian darft horses have large and powerfully built hindquarters and forequarters, but the hooves are smaller than on other draft horsed. These smaller hooves alow them better footing in tight furrows. Belgian draft horses have a small and square head. They have very distinct colors: Breeders have selected and bred Belgians for the sorrel, chestnut and roan colors, all with flaxen manes an tails. Most popular are the chestnut and sorrel colored ones. Almost everyone who interacts with Belgian draft horses comments on their kind and gentle nature. They are very docile, calm and easy to handle. These horses are very avid and willing workers. They are happier when working than they are being idle. They may not be very elegant but have a very down to earth personality.
